Mr. Haitze Siemers, Head of Unit “New energy technologies, innovation and clean coal”, DG Energy, has been working for the European Commission since 1993. He started his career on EU-Japan relations, both in Brussels and in Tokyo, followed by work in trade policy leading in particular the development of the European Commissions trade policy dialogue with civil society. After a stint in consumer policy, Mr. Siemers joined the team developing a blueprint for Europe’s Maritime Policy. From 2008 to 2018, Mr. Siemers led a number of different teams in DG MARE on the development of Blue Growth strategies, EU legislation on Maritime Spatial Planning, the EU’s International Ocean Governance Strategy, and innovation, research and investments. As of June 2018, Mr. Siemers took on his current function at the helm of Unit C2 in DG ENER.

Darius Snieckus is Editor-in-Chief at Recharge, the global renewable energy industry news and intelligence website and magazine, launched in 2009. He also hosts the Recharge Thought Leaders, a group made up of many of the most influential executives in the wind, solar and wider Energy Transition sectors that meet for regular roundtables and an annual Summit. Snieckus has written on energy for over 25 years, before Recharge serving on editorial staffs at leading oil and gas titles including Offshore Engineer, the Oil & Gas Journal and the Petroleum Economist.
Matthias Machnig is the Head of Industrial Strategy at EIT InnoEnergy, a position he has held since December 2018. Based in Berlin, Machnig supports the development of industrial strategy as well as working with the European Battery Alliance to help transform the sustainable energy and automotive industries.
Prior to this, he was the Minister for Economics, Labour and Technology in Thuringia. Previously, he served as the State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Transport, the Federal Ministry for the Environment and until April 2018 in the Federal Ministry of Economics. Machnig currently serves as the Chairman of Supervisory Board at Nova Ratio AG.
